Where Art Thou: Filipinos in the Gilded Age

Crystal chandeliers, Persian carpets, damask wallpapers, heavily draped doors — it felt like a time warp as I opened the doors of Leon Gallery to visit a once in a blue moon exhibit.

Collected by gallery owner Jaime Ponce de Leon and curated by Lisa Guerrero Nakpil, Ramon Villegas, and Liliane Manahan, the Filipinos in a Gilded Age is a collection of works that showcase the highest orders of art, politics, history, culture, and society in the 19th century.

Where Art Thou: National Gallery of Singapore

SG National Gallery-1

Today, I will take you to the National Gallery of Singapore. It occupies two important monuments for Singapore: the former Supreme Court and City Hall. Keeping the original facade and main structure, they have restored and renovated the place into an impressive gallery housing the largest public collection of modern art in Singapore and Southeast Asia. Apart from its permanent collections, there is a special gallery in the 2nd floor which features different exhibitions.

Where Art Thou: Art in the Park

Summer in Manila is no joke. You’d rather stay inside the house on a Sunday afternoon than go outdoors. The heat was making me choose whether I’d stay in my room and do another series marathon or go out walking under the sun and visit Art in the Park. But, of course, for the love of art, I found myself finally joining the huge crowd… which I didn’t really expect to be as huge considering the heat because, wow, Manila summer and global warming.

Art in the Park

In its 10th year anniversary, Art in The Park featured 60 different galleries, collectives, and groups. Live art and hundreds of canvases, furnitures, and art in different forms — paint, ceramic pottery, wheels and wires, threads, coffee, and a whole lot more that were on sale.

Even the cotton candy sold by Kuya were made like art. Check out this unicorn cotton candy in the making!  😛

For an art collector, this was the ultimate art heaven because everything was tagged at an affordable price. For all of us who love art, it was a feast for the eyes! In case you missed it, don’t worry because Art in the Park will be back next year. Meanwhile, here are some of the photos from this year’s event. 😉

INKFest 2015

They say the creative adult is the child that survived. We say, everyone survived. All of us are just waiting for every adult to let it happen. In the day-long annual event organized by Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan, or Ang INK, INKfest celebrates children’s literature in the form of visual art and showcases talents through mini exhibits, live art, and booths that feature original works of local talents. Held at the top shelf of Fully Booked Bonifacio High Street, the event is free and open to the public, both young and young-at-heart.

Katipunan Art Festival 2015 [Part 1]

The moment we read about Katipunan Art Festival promotions, we couldn’t contain our excitement. Finally! The local art scene… in our second home, Katipunan! Art fairs, pop-up stores, exhibits, workshops, live demos, film screening, live music, and open mic night! It was definitely a weekend of art at the first Katipunan Art Festival held yesterday around Esteban Abada and the stretch of Katipunan Avenue.

First agenda: registration and acquisition of festival maps at the Hey Kessy store in Esteban Abada. The weather was cooperating. It was a hot mid-summer afternoon, an almost perfect festival weather, but exploring the stretch of Abada and Katipunan despite the heat was all worth it. For art!
